Strategy: Forward Plan
Sharing the Future identified a number of objectives for library services in the region. In order to deliver these objectives, Libraries and Information East Midlands Council established four cross-sectoral strategic groups for Learning and Access, Research and Information, Resource Sharing and Co-operation and Training and Development.
In summer 2004 the progress of the strategic groups was reviewed and it was acknowledged that these cross-sectoral groups had been highly effective in identifying a number of strategic priorities for the libraries and information domain in the East Midlands and that an ambitious work programme had been established by the groups.Three key priorities had emerged:
DiadEM - a collections mapping exercise to collect and disseminate information about library and information services resources within the region, leading to the creation of a searchable database of collections decriptions to the RSLP standard.
Inspire - to work with the national initiative to enable managed access and referral for learners to the region's libraries.
Scimitar - to conduct a feasibility study into interoperability of library catalogues across the region.
and it was agreed that the strategic groups would be replaced by time-limited task groupsto manage these areas of activity.
Regional Council, in October 2004, agreed than an overarching Strategy and Planning group would also be created with representatives from Regional Council, the Hon Officers and the Chairs of the former strategic working groups. This group would continue to identify further priorities for the organisation and to plan and monitor their delivery.

The Strategy and Planning group met in January 2005 and confirmed Libraries and Information East Midlands' Forward Plan. A PDF version of the Forward Plan can be found below.
