Local Studies Forum
Libraries and Information East Midlands Council sponsors a number of special interest sub-groups. These groups offer an opportunity for staff in all types of libraries across the region to network, to exchange ideas and information, to share good practice and to become involved in practical co-operation. Their work helps to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of Sharing the Future.
One of these groups, The East Midlands Local Studies Forum meets twice yearly and brings together representatives from the public library services together with colleagues from the Record Offices and Universities within the region.
The purpose of the Forum is to raise awareness of Local Studies issues; to facilitate communication and current awareness; to promote partnership working especially involving academic libraries, and to work together towards shared objectives. Terms of reference for the Forum were agreed at the meeting held in September 2008 and these can be found below.
The Forum provides a valuable opportunity to share ideas and good practice and to visit collections in other libraries in the region. The minutes of the Forum's meetings are available as Word documents below.
